Jewel Orchid

Jewel Orchids are actaully not orchids at all, but a unique member of the Ludisia genus, named for their stunning flowers that appear mid-winter. Their year-round foliage is equally beautiful, appearing in a velvetty burgundy with silver stripes. This plant loves medium, indirect light and watering when the top 1" of soil is dry. 

Climate - Native to tropical regions of the Philippines 

Light - Bright indirect to filtered indirect, never direct

Soil - Compost heavy potting soil with peat moss. Repot only in the springtime if plant has filled its pot.

Water - Water regularly on a weekly basis, keeping soil evenly moist, let top 1 inche dry before watering

Humidity - Likes increased humidity, use pebble tray or light misting

Temperature - Typical indoor temperature acceptable, prefers temperatures above 60 degrees
