Coconut Pie Orchid

Maxillaria tenuifolia gets its name from the intense coconut aroma that comes from blooming flowers. This orchid is a unique addition to any collection, with flowers that appear at the base of its pseudobulbs, with grasslike leaves giving it a full appearance even when not in bloom. Check this orchid once a week and water the soil well when it's totally dry. This orchid prefers very strong, indirect light, and benefits from orchid fertilizer in the spring (like most orchids, fertilize before buds appear; fertilizing afterwards can often cause the buds to fall).
